Bug Description
Binary package hint: smplayer
ubuntu 10.10
Libvdpau1 0.4.5ubuntu1
GeForce 8500GT
Nvidia 260.19.06ubuntu1
Open a 720p or 1080p h264 video in smplayer with external subtitles (srt)
problem : when the first subtitle appear on screen, frames are dropped for a couple of seconds.
Sometimes this happen too when no subtitles are used, but the dropped frames are unpredictable, this may happen on a slow motion / low complexity scene.
The same video played with smplayer or totem using XV output plays fine (not the 1080p of course, my celeron does not have the sufficient horsepower)
VDPAU on 10.04 worked just fine, this problem appear to me with the 10.10 upgrade.
When using directly mplayer from the cli with vdpau, there is no slowdown when subtitles appear. Must be something with the way smplayer handles subtitles.
The Sintel movie can be a good test for this problem : http://
The Full 2048 x 872 px mp4 surround 5.1 with srt subtiles (bottom of the page) is just fine.
Can I provide more useful informations?
I think I have spotted the problem.
In preferences> subtitles> font and colors choose normal subtitles.
The slowdowns are gone!
When switching to ssa/ass subtitles the problem is back.
