Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Currently using Ubuntu 10.10 which was upgraded from 10.04 online.

Package having problem : network-manager 0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2

Description:
When I was using Lucid, network manager applet automatically detected any usb modem devices and made it ready for connection. After upgrade to Maverick, sometimes the devices are not at all detected. Some times after a restart, when I plug the usb and wait for around five minutes, it gets detected. There are no problems in connecting.

I tried using many devices. One Nokia E51, one Huawei EC1262 modem etc. All resulted the same.
this is what i got using lsusb for my Nokia E51.
ashok@ashok-laptop:~$ lsusb
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 15d9:0a4c Trust International B.V.

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0c45:6400 Microdia
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Another thing I noticed is, its a bit complicated,
When i turn on my computer with the device already connected, then the network-manager never detects the device even after I take it back and plug it again.
And, when I turn computer on without the device and then I connect the device, then it takes somewhat 2 minutes to detect it.
But wireless networks are detected instantly under all conditions.

Hi, thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Could you please add some more information to this bug report? If you could include the USB ID of your USB modem, that would be great. You can get this with the 'lsusb' command. Thanks!

Hmm, are you only seeing delay? It's a known issue (same happens on my USB 3G modem). Not saying it shouldn't be fixed, but let's clarify that it's mostly just that ;)
