I can confirm this bug. While trying to delete empty contacts from Evolution I get the following error:

** (e-addressbook-factory:22297): DEBUG: Error getting document: Unauthorized

I ran the evolution-data-server binary from the command line. Launched Evolution. Right-click on an empty contact entry and selected delete. This resulted in the above error being printed to Terminal.

Changed in evolution-couchdb (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium

Marking this as a duplicate of LP:673568 since the reason why contacts cannot be edited or deleted is the corrupted internal structures of the document that is being JSON-encoded via couchdb-glib and then sent to CouchDB. CouchDB does not like invalid keys in the document and returns Bad Request.
