Bug Description

After a LAMP installation of Ubuntu Edgy, with daily image dated 20061017.1, Apache is not redirecting the default page to /var/www/apache2-default, but instead, is showing the (empty) directory /var/www/.

error_log and access_log show no errors, or anything strange.

This was intentional, as the redirect to /apache2-default/ appeared to confuse the heck out of users when they went to edit their website (which should be in /var/www)

Having the default site in a subdirectory (because we really can't/shouldn't install and overwrite an index.html in /var/www) is really the best compromise here. It allows people to see the default start page with a single click, not confuse them with a config directive that causes mass bug filings, and not take ownership of /var/www/index.html
