Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

When using openchrome xorg driver with composite enabled on kwin, kdeinit4 crashes after login. To fix the problem it's necessary to disable composite feature on /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/kwinrc, to disable composite extension directly in xorg.conf or to disable the 3d acceleration. This issue occurs only on via cards, specifically with the model described below:

# lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. P4M890 [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 02)

The bug can be reproduced on any fresh new installation of Kubuntu 10.04 LTS with composite enabled on kwin. The driver version is:

# dpkg -l xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
ii xserver-xorg-video-openchrome 1:0.2.904+svn827-1 X.Org X server -- VIA display driver

It seems to be a bug on the driver itself. However, just the X client crashes and nothing is shown on the xsever log. .xsession-errors will be attached.

Attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file with compiz disabled.
