In Maverick, attached file does not show video, the audio skips around, and it notes:

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "MSS2". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

This issue is confirmed.

Rémi Denis-Courmont, the issue is reproducible exactly as noted in the Bug Description with VLC master-daily PPA. Is it possible the upstream commits intended to address this issue are either not in the master-daily PPA or does not actually address it?

I don't know if the PPA is synchronized with upstream but the commits are upstream. You'll need a recent libav too.
