doc file missing icon for word

when viewing a file uploaded with a .doc extension
it shows as File type: Octet-stream
with a generic icon

shouldn't it provide same icon and file type as docx?

The problem is actually that the mime type is not set properly. We probably just took whichever mime type was handed to us by the browser, which isn't necessarily always particularly helpful. We should probably consider "application/octet-stream" to be a non-type and fall back to guessing by file extension in the event we get that from a browser.
