When using VLC playback engine, audio is distorted

Bug Description

It appears that the default settings for GNOME Media Player has the audio gain boosted too high when using the VLC engine, and thus, audio is distorted.

I wonder if this is a VLC setting. What's the volume set to when you run VLC (the player)?

VLC volume is normal (100%). It sounds as if GMP has the gain up too high and thus gives distorted audio.
