Translated screen saver descriptions not used

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

I recently finisched translating xscreensaver to Dutch and I wanted to test the translation. I therefore replaced the content of /usr/share/locale-langpack/nl/LC_MESSAGES/xscreensaver.mo with the new .mo file.
This seems to have worked for all settings and the names for the screensavers, but the explanation of each screensaver (in 'Settings') still appears in English.

I expected all translations to be pulled from a single .mo file, is there another file I need to replace to test my translations?

Some time ago, I translated these too and these came from xml files, that had to be populated with translations at build time.

However, back then intltool didn't even extracted correctly the strings - most of them contained line breaks, but intltool did not included those in the .pot file. This was when I gave up translating xscreensaver, however it is possible that this is not a problem now. But I guess the xml files remain.

I could not find any information about translating xscreensaver at their upstream, so I just assumed I would send in the completed po file. Would it be best now to just send the untested po file to xscreensaver and let them figure out how to include them?

The translated .po-file must be sent to the author by email and also imported into launchpad. Please talk to Hendrik Knackstedt, who did this for the German translation of xscreensaver in the end of september 2010, if you'd like to find out more.

Hmm. but I'm not quite sure, whether Hendrik was able to extract these XMLs.

When I completed the translation in LP I merged these translations with the upstream po file and send the completed file to the author by email, but I never got an reaction. Ill send Hendrik Knackstedt an email, it was a lot of work and it would be nice of more people could benefit from my work.

Marking it as invalid for the ubuntu-translations project, at it's up to upstream to accept the contributions, as far as I understand it.

yes, and they did get accepted. I just noticed that xscreensaver is completely untranslated in 12.10, I will file a new bug
