Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

When I try to hibernate or suspend, the screen goes black, and the system refuses to sleep. Checking dmesg I see that ksysguard is responsible (attached).

I'm using a relatively fresh install of Kubuntu 10.10.

lsb_release -rd:
Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

apt-cache policy ksysguard:
ksysguard:
  Installed: 4:4.5.1-0ubuntu8
  Candidate: 4:4.5.1-0ubuntu8
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.5.1-0ubuntu8 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expect to happen:
The system sleeps or hibernates.

What happens instead:
The screen goes black. All services shut down, but the system will not sleep or hibernate. This happens when sleeping from the Power Management applet, closing the lid, or running pm-suspend.

Thanks! I thought I was going crazy. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this bug. I added myself to the bug on the KDE bugzilla.

The workaround that i find is to remove the ksysguardd (aka rename) because isn't possibile use this system in mobile life and remeber every time to kill this program...
My sensation is, after a lot of heavy bug in usability for me (this, the suspend, the xorg crashing, and other) that the kubuntu 10.10 is only a problem. I'm reverting my installation to ubuntu 10.04, more stable.
You can close this bug for me.

What do you mean rename ksysguardd?

I'm very tempted to revert to Kubuntu 10.04 too. I've had nothing but trouble with this release...

Yes, because isn't possible to purge the packet, as i saw, a lot of package depend from this.
I reverted to 10.04.

My temporary workaround is to run this in a shell when suspending:
while :; do pkill -9 ksysguardd; sleep .1; done

Just remember to stop the above code after resuming from suspend. I'm going to play around with writing a script to kill it on suspend automatically, I'll come back and post the results.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
