I cannot send text messages through aim account on empathy

I am using ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix, Empathy version 2.32.0
I expected to be able to send a text message to a phone
instead it always says user not logged in or unable to send message

it almost seems like there should be an option to add this to an existing AIM contact, and this feature is only half broken, as in people don't really know it exists or how it works in empathy. From what I've seen it needs this format in order to work: +AZZZXXXXXXX
A = Country code
Z = Area Code
X = Phone number

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? This has been this way for a long time and I am really sick of waiting for someone to fix it. I am using Precise Pangolin now and I haven't been able to use empathy to send to mobile for several releases.
