kinoplus 0.3.5-3 breaks kino 0.9

I think the summary says it all. Attached is the command line output of trying to start kino while kinoplus is installed.

Based on the comment of kino dev ddennedy I suggest the dependency of kino on kinoplus be removed.

Heh, you're not going to like the answer... the person who

wrote is not maintaining it. It is on top of my list for
adding to the Kino project like I have done with other
plugin projects. I expect it to be in the 0.9.4 release,
but I am planning extensive changes (e.g. removing GNOME
dependency), so it is not a trivial bug fix. Keep your
eyes open for the news.

If it is just the debian package, then kino is not dependent on kinoplus. It is just recommended. I think the maintainer should consider breaking the recommendation, and potentially remove kinoplus package altogether. For a while, kinoplus was not exactly harmful, but now it is causing more harm than benefit.

I've remarked a bunch of bug reports to reflect that they're actually kinoplus bugs and not kino bugs. Specifically kino does not (yet) officially kinoplus - so marking it as a kino bug would make no sense. As Dan says kinoplus should probably not be a recommended or suggested package for kino any longer.

Roland Mas (Debian maintainer of kinoplus) wrote:

... it so happens that the package isn't
broken. kinoplus 0.3.5-3 works just fine here on Debian. No segfault
on startup, no crash when using its video filters. So I suspect the
problem isn't actually with kinoplus upstream. For the record: the
working behaviour can be observed with kino 0.92-1 here on Debian.

To confirm Roland's assessment, I was able to get Kino working flawlessly with Debian Etch -- Kino 0.90 + kinoplus. My issue with Dapper (kino 0.80) is that I can get kino's import feature to work. In Debian Etch I was able to import all types of video formats with Kino's new transcoding support using mencoder and ffmpeg.

* FYI, kino 0.80 seems to be working fine with kinoplus installed on my Dapper system.

Could people try if that upload fixes the issue:

 kinoplus (0.3.5-3build1) edgy; urgency=low
 .
   * Rebuild to fix kino crasher (Ubuntu: #66537)

and comment on the bug to say if that's fixed for them too or not

I can't see kinoplus (0.3.5-3build1) in the main server's repo, it's been about 12 hours since your comment Sebastian. When/ how can we get that rebuilt package and try it out?

the package has been accepted it has to build and be published now

Installing a rebuilt (in an up-to-date edgy pbuilder) kinoplus package fixed this bug for me, so the 0.3.5-3build1 release should fix it as well.
