Bug Description
Inkscape version: 0.48+devel r9797
OS: Windows XP sp2
Simple reconstruction:
1 - Make a path containing 4 nodes (3 segments).
2 - Make the two innermost nodes smooth (path is not just a straight line).
3 - try to double click on either outer segments. No new node will be created.
Testfile uploaded. I'm not able to insert a new node in any segments - exept from the midle segment.
Attachment included.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.47, 0.48 and 0.48+devel r9834,
Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.46 on OS X 10.5.8
Same issue as Bug #290870 “Regression: Curve dragging via Node Tool sometimes won't work” (<https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/inkscape/ +bug/290870>) - if the path segment can't be dragged (no 'hand' symbol when hovering it with the cursor), it can also not be double-clicked (or Ctrl+Alt+clicked) to insert a new node.
