Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you were not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories (google-gadgets 0:0.10.0-0ubuntu0~ppa2). Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!
If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

yea you are right. i installed the package from google in ubuntu 8.04 then i
upgrade to 10.04 and it stopped working. i thought that i had been lost in
the upgrade, so i tried to reinstall it from the software center and got the
error. i figured out that it was still installed but not working properly.
after i used the synaptic package manager to uninstall the partial package i
use it to reinstall it from the repository. it works fine now.

thank you for your quick investigation and reply, it is greatly
appreciated!!!!
