Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

While using kubuntu with nouveau (with or without libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental installed), suddenly x.org starts to use 100% cpu and the desktop freezes. i can still move the mousepointer, but not click anymore.

Using the nvidia binary driver this does not happen.

I think the common thing i found with the "crashes" was that i was doing some heavy IO operation. Once it was copying large amount of files, and the other 2 times i was burning a dvd.

I hope this can get fixed. Kde with the binary drivers is really slow after an hour (with nouveau it really flies!).

thank you for your time. If any information is needed, please ask, i can use a CLI ;)

I would like to add that i can login to my computer over ssh while the 100% occurs. I could do some investigation, if i knew how to do to (attaching gdb to x.org? i would need some help about how to do that).

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)

Hey Asraniel,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
