Bug Description

When attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on a Compaq Presario 2170US Laptop, the system freezes almost immediately after the kernel loads. This happens when using CD and DVD media, and with the Live CD and the Alternate Install CD. Hardware problems and the possibility of corrupted media have been ruled out by the following steps:

1) The same Live CD that fails on the Compaq 2170US boots on other computers without difficulty.

2) An Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD boots on the Compaq 2170US without difficulty

Others are experiencing similar problems on different hardware, such as the problems recounted in this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9984224#post9984224

Thanks Fabio.

Unfortunately, pressing any key results in the freeze. The installer won't go past the language selection without freezing up.

Hello
Can you try an installation with the alternate version, just boot the CD and press Alt+F1 (or Ctrl+Alt*f1 i don't remember), so it switch to verbose mode and we can see where it freeze.
Thanks
Fabio

I am experiencing the exact same problem while trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on my compaq 2190us. I am unable to do anything at all because as soon as u try to hit any key it just freezes up and the seconds on the language select screen stop moving.
