Bug Description
When attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on a Compaq Presario 2170US Laptop, the system freezes almost immediately after the kernel loads. This happens when using CD and DVD media, and with the Live CD and the Alternate Install CD. Hardware problems and the possibility of corrupted media have been ruled out by the following steps:
1) The same Live CD that fails on the Compaq 2170US boots on other computers without difficulty.
2) An Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD boots on the Compaq 2170US without difficulty
Others are experiencing similar problems on different hardware, such as the problems recounted in this thread: http://
