Bug Description

Binary package hint: coreutils

As an security consideration I propose to "prompt once before removing more than three files, or when removing recursively" in the "rm" command, by default. Scripts have to use "--interactive=never" or a shortcut option to avoid this.

Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This has been discussed before -- see, for example:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2008-02/msg00079.html

The default behaviour of 'rm' is dictated by POSIX and, as such, cannot be changed (unless POSIX itself changes it). It is usually considered a better practice to alias 'rm' if one wishes this type of protection. Additionally, there are thousands of scripts that rely on this behaviour...

As such, closing WONTFIX.
