Bug Description

Hello

Lyrics fetching was working fine yesterday (15 oct 2010) but stopped fetching lyrics now. I went into the irc channel and more people had this error (trying to check if it was merely something wrong on my end first)
I refer here to the lyrics wiki plugin (lyrics fly never even worked at all to begin with).

Using Exaile 0.3.2.0 / Ubuntu 10.10
Thanks

cheers

Hello!

I just found out that the plugin works with SOME songs. The plugin was able to fetch lyrics for a couple of songs of a Stratovarius' album, however the rest of the songs' lyrics were fetched incorrectly. I also tested a couple of albums from different artists where the plugin fetched it's lyrics correctly before the bug, Unfortunatetly, the lyrics weren't fetched at all, not even a wrong result.

I hope this works, good luck!

Same way here, possible reason, Lyrics Wiki changed their page, and maybe way that they marked songs!

It's caused by Beautiful-Soup 3.1. It's a messy version.
I tried to correct the "bad end tag" problem it caused by parsing with html5lib, lxml, ElementTree bla bla bla.. Nothing.
So I switched back to Beautiful-Soup 3.0.8 ( thanks Archlinux for the easy operation by the way ).
Now it works as expected.

Little reference of that for records and reference :

The exact error ( raised line 58 of plugin but hidden by default LyricsNotFoundException ) :
bad end tag: u"</scri' + 'pt>"
Or something like that.

Anyone have easy instructions on how to downgrade to 3.0.8 then? Been trying to find some online but no luck.

@pcscarpa, @hvannentir: Please don't use these bugs for discussing side problems like downgrading that are not directly related to fixing this bug in Exaile. That sort of request is better suited to a distro-specific support channel, NOT Exaile's bugtracker.

@hvannentir: Thanks for finding the problem. Unfortunately, we cannot make the choice for our users that they have to downgrade their beautifulsoup, so we NEED to find a way of making it work with all variants of beautifulsoup. (Unless upstream is going to come out with a new version very soon we can use....)

The problem oddly seems to be fixing itself. Fetching started working for more and more tracks which a few days ago weren't working. It may have been just something wrong with the lyrics wiki API.

Can confirm that fetching works again.
Maybe there has been an update on beautifulsoup.
I'm currently running 3.1.0.1-2build1 on ubuntu 10.04.

@Aren Olson : You should not spent time on this I think.
Beautiful Soup 3.1 is abandoned :
"The 3.1 series has been abandoned. The 3.0 series is still under development; use it instead"
Cf http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/3.1-problems.html

It's so a distro/package problem.

As Hvannentir noted, this is more an issue with beautifulsoup 3.1 sucking than anything in exaile. Plugin is working correctly with beautifulsoup 3.2 on arch linux, users should upgrade/downgrade beautifulsoup if they encounter this problem.
