Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

In 9.10 there have been a way to painlessly turn off keyboard indicator by something like that:

gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/disable_indicator -t bool true

Now, there is a way, but it turns off correct layout switching altogether with an applet:

gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard/active false

This is good when Ubuntu add something new and shiny to Gnome, but why was it necessary to replace the normal Gnome applet with the new and incomplete one?

As far as I am acknowledged, only way to do it now is to install old version of gnome-settings-daemon and lock it's version, am I correct?

Not necessary no add, it would be nice to see a GUI option to turn that thing off, since many use automatic keyboard layout switchers like Gxneur, which have a nice layout indicator of their own.

In my opinion this was mistakingly marked as duplicate, since I am not complaining about extra icon next to indicator, I am requesting a gnome-settings-daemon key and the GUI option to turn indicator off, with or without the icon.
