Bug Description

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

Asked here first: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+question/129705 and filing a bug was suggested.

The bug is, the image in the "Show Current Layout" is not refreshing after updating the keymapping data (even after a reboot). The first image that was generated by XKB sticks as the "Show Current Layout" image.

Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit Desktop

sudo rm -f /var/lib/xkb/* does the trick. When a geometry file from which these .xkm files are being generated is newer than the .xkm file, remove this .xkm file and it will be regenerated,

This process can be triggered by gnome-keyboard-properties and friends or at startup of the machine.

#1: Thanks Pander. The sudo rm -f /var/lib/xkb/* command worked. But the:

"This process can be triggered by gnome-keyboard-properties and friends or at startup of the machine."

Does not, that's why I asked and filed a bug report ^_^ (unless I misunderstood what you mean, for which I apologize).

Thank you again.

Can you describe how you are updating the keymapping data? If you're doing it manually, I'm not sure there's a way within xkeyboard-config to automatically refresh the data.

I don't think it should be done automatically at boot, since 99.99% of users are not going to be changing this. I agree that it could be checked and rebuilt from gnome-keyboard-properties, however I'm not sure even there the use case is large enough to warrant doing it; I'm refiling the bug there for review, but suspect they may prefer to WONTFIX.
