Bug Description

All off a sudden, I cannot connect to my samba server anymore. Neither from a Windows XP client, nor through KDE's "smb" kioslave.
The samba log shows:
"""
[2006/10/14 20:41:24, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(592)
  Can't become connected user!
[2006/10/14 20:41:26, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(592)
  Can't become connected user!
[2006/10/14 20:41:29, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(693)
base (127.0.0.1) connect to service data initially as user X (uid=1000, gid=1000) (pid 18836)
"""

From a quick search it may be related to some kernel changes.

Hi.

Can you check if the instructions here (http://www.gatago.com/linux/samba/23879720.html) solves your problem?

It was result of a quick google search.

Probably not and I would not know how to change it for the kioslave anyway.

I saw exactly the same symptom on my Karmic server during attempts to connect to the share from BackupPC. Failed on hourly attempts for 6 hours, then recovered and completed backups with no intervention.

Trying to join an XP machine to a new setup of samba on my Ubuntu host. Ubuntu is running on Lucid and I'm getting the same exact error message as listed above. It could likely be a configuration issue as this is my first stab at setting this up. I'm following these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/samba-dc.html

and I also found some reference to computer policy settings on the XP machine but those didn't help: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-July/123225.html
