Look like the bug only show if you skip the music many times for second.
In pidgim I get an error message telling me the nickname was changed too much times.

I think the correct behavior would be just to show nothing.

Thank you for the attention.
Yes it is easily reproducible.

All you need to do is:

1. Open RythmBox, and i guess any app that changes messenger status
2. Enable Rythmbox, "messenger status" plug-in
3. Open a conversation in empathy
4. Go to Rythmbox and skip music several times per second (I usually
do it in shuffle mode)
5. Bug happens (many times)

This appears to be more of a rhythmbox bug than an empathy one. Moving to rhythmbox

affects: empathy (Ubuntu) → rhythmbox (Ubuntu)

I don't think so, I know people don't like comparissons, but Pidgin gives a
message about the status message changing too much (wich I don't think is
the best behavior, since it generates an intrusive pop up message). I think
empathy is just not handling whatever error generates this message
(something that comes from the WLM protocol) properly, there should be some
kind of error code empathy can check against, and then just ignore this kind
of "unknow" error. Maybe put it on a log somewhere, but as it is now the
behavior is not only wrong but misleading, because it looks to the user that
some message was not sent (and there is no way to know wich one.)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
