Bug Description

I have tested an upgrade from kubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and even a fresh install and have issues with desktop effects:
First it seems that desktop effects are not all activated on boot, sometime I have to use ALT+MAJ+F12 to activate them
Second, all screenshots that show the 10.10 desktop (and for what I remember what I have in the 10.04) the taskbar was transprent. Right now, all is grey with the default theme. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with an Intel graphic card.

Please let me know what logs or information you need to investigate further.

I would suggest that you report the two separate issues as different bugs, outlining the steps needed to reproduce what you are seeing (including useful files like screenshots and X logs) as well as well as details on what is expected.

I suggest that when you run into a graphics issue, open up a terminal and run the following command:

$ ubuntu-bug xorg

affects: ubuntu → xorg (Ubuntu)
Changed in xorg (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
