Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am surfing and listening to a youtube video in the background. Suddenly, the youtube video stalls like an old record. The same words are repeated over and over again. The computer stops responding. I have to shut it down and restart the computer. After restarting the computer firefox gives me the option to restore the tabs.

Well, this is quite a nuisance in particular since I can't kill firefox, I have to shut down the computer completely. Adobe flash player seems to be crashing firefox and the rest.

This bug is really consistent. I am watching youtube on my mobile phone now because the OS crashes so much.

I am also running a 64bit system. Let me know if I can produce and data for you.

One other thing, affects chrome too. I know chrome is not maintained by ubuntu. Not asking you to fix chrome. I am just saying this affects multiple browsers.

Right, here is my setup to reproduce the problem:

Ubuntu: 10.10
arch: 64 bits
Firefox: 3.6.15
Flash: 10.3 d162 (64 bits from http://ppa.launchpad.net/sevenmachines/flash/ubuntu) and 10.2.152.27 (from ubuntu repository)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Point Firefox to a youtube playlist (eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I&feature=autoplay&list=PLEDF2230BC83F482F&index=2&playnext=2 )

2. Change to another FF tab, or another window
3. Wait for the video to end

Expected result:
The next video should start playing

Actual result:
Flash crash (see attachment)

This bug is not reproducible in Opera: in Opera the next video plays normally.

Does this still happen?

I actually changed my comment to bug 728778 as it's more recent and seems more suitable to when/how my issue appeared.

It was happening to me until a kernel upgrade came down apt. Since then I have not had a problem.

kikl, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc8

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
