Need enrollment statuses for students within a section

The primary use case here is distinguishing between "enrolled" and "withdrawn."
This has to be reflected in the gradebook and journal.

I've been thinking about this - in my opinion we need to add "time spans" for most of memberships instead of simple status. As in "student is enrolled for the section Sep 15 - Dec 20", "student is a member of chess club Sep 1 2010 - Oct 30 2010, Feb 1 2011 - Mar 20 2011". Same can be said for instructor memberships - and probably others, like advisors, resource leaders...

Of course, this should not force users to specify dates for each membership. "Timeless" membership by default, and options to "withdraw from date X" or "enroll from date X" in many places in UI.
