Hello John, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better!
It looks like maybe something interrupted your download.
Can you try running "Computer Janitor", or opening a terminal window, and typing
sudo apt-get clean
Which will remove any downloaded lists of files and packages. Then re-run your updates (you may have to click 'check for updates' again).
I'm closing this as Invalid, as this is not a bug per se, but just a temporary failure.
