Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

This error occurred while upgrading Lucid to Maverick, at the stage 'Setting new software channels'. Manually installing/upgrading the package from Maverick repository while the upgrade is frozen at this stage allows the upgrade to proceed beyond here.

Please run the following command and attach the output file to the next post. (The output file will be placed on your desktop)

sudo apt-get update > ~/Desktop/Update-File

I'm sorry, but in panic I used the procedure I described in the bug report to
resolve the problem before filing the report. I suspect the output of sudo
apt-get update > ~/Desktop/Update-File will not be useful?

No problem, it's better to file reports that we can mark as duplicate later than picking a random report and saying 'I'm affected' when it's completely unrelated. So, thank you for your report.

The output of the command is useless, it's a well known problem.
Nevertheless, I've filed a new report because if the error displayed by update-manager was less confusing you would have had to file a report.

Dont worry about it. This is a duplicate anyway. It seems a lot of users are experiencing the same issue. Thanks for reporting it though!
