Bug Description

I've just bought an Asus eeePC 1015PE. It comes with an Atom N450 which is usually very cool and therefore quiet. I've just installed Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 Netbook Edition and the cooling fan is kind of going crazy. The temperature of the CPU is sometimes under 40°C on Windows 7. On Ubuntu, it never goes under 60°C.

It makes this little netbook a little bit loud. I'm really willing to help. Do you need any information?

Hi Thomas,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I did not looked at the good temperature (a kernel module was not loaded). The temperature is the same as on Windows 7.

I just made sensors-detect and added the module that were suggested. After a reboot I'm able to see two temperatures : the internal one and the external one. When the Asus is not in intensive use, they reach 40°C and 60°C which is the same as on Windows 7.
