Bug Description

System Cannot Be Installed without Boot Option memory_corruption_check_size=128K

System crashes with kernel oops during mkfs.ext4 (also mkfs.xfs) unless Boot Option memory_corruption_check_size=128K is used.

System fails in a similar way when trying to install Lucid and Hardy. This is not a new issue; not a regression.

Want me to test upstream? Post a link to an ISO of it. Thanks.

The Alternate installation CD can also boot with memmap=128K$0x2000
however the system will not boot from sda after putting this /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="memmap=128K\$0x2000"

and running update-grub.

Only boots if I use

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="memory_corruption_check_size=128K"

The default is

memory_corruption_check_size=64K

but it seems that's not enough for some systems.

Thanks

Hi nutznboltz,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
