Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Nautilus 2.32.0, when renaming a file using the F2 shortcut, the file name is highlighted, while the dot and extension are not, which is good. However, when in list mode, both the file name and extension are highlighted.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Nautilus
2. Set the view to icon view
3. Select a file
4. Press F2
5. The file name is highlighted but not the dot or extension
6. Press ESC to cancel renaming
7. Set the view to list view
8. Select the same file as in step 3
9. Press F2

Actual behaviour:
The full file name, including the dot and extension is highlighted.

Expected behaviour:
Only the file name stem should be highlighted, as in step 5.

Original bug report in French:

Dans Nautilus 3.32.0, lorsque l'on renomme un fichier avec extension, après l'appuie sur F2, le nom du fichier est sélectionné sauf le point et l'extension --> OK
Ceci ne fonctionne pas dans la Vue en liste

I just updated my installation to kernel 2.6.35-27, but I see no difference. F2 still selects the file extension ... Has the fix been released?

Has the update been released? It seems that it was not included in the recent updates.

No. The recent status change refers to the upstream bug being marked as fixed in master. The bug is still marked as Triaged in Ubuntu. It appears that, as of yet, no one has backported the patch to 2.32.0 and generated a new package. Check upstream for more info.

I have created debdiffs for Natty and Maverick. The upstream patch applied cleanly, only the target file name from the patch has changed.

For those who want to test the change, there are debsin my PPA:

Thank you for your work there, I've pinged upstream about it and they will get it commited in gnome-2-32 and get a new tarball before natty with that fix and some others included

not sure the fix qualities for a stable update in a non lts version, update have a cost for the ubuntu team, testers, mirrors, users who download the update, etc, those are usually restricted to fix important issues
