Bug Description

Please investigate about the opportunity to re-enable the gnome vfs support into openoffice.org2 2.0.x inside the Dapper Drake Upstream Release.

Actually there's no way to get/create/modify file directly from a VFS...

Thanks for your bug. Do you have openoffice.org2-gnome installed?

Yes, sure. But there's no way to read the VFS folder either from right click on the file than from openoffice file/Open.

I've to report these other issues regarding the GNOME VFS support in
Ubuntu Dapper 2006-01-15 update:

    - NO VFS support in Bluefish Editor

    - from gEdit is you try to open a file from VFS volume (SMB/NFS/FTP)
you get the token session auth message and if you allow the application
to access you can get the file correctly.....BUT if you try to do the
opposite procedure (right click on the file on VFS volume, than Open
with text editor) you only get a balnk document in gEdit.

those are issues with bluefish which probably doesn't use gnome-vfs for that and gedit. gedit works fine for me though

The problem with gedit is only on Ubuntu Dapper, in Breezy works fine
also with VFS volumes (opening from File|Openor directly from remote
file).

It's possible to fix (or add the feature) the behavior in bluefish ?

Thanks.

Do you still have that issue with the new version? Do you have a ~/.local/share/applications/gedit.desktop? Could you attach it to the bug?

uhm, in the Ubuntu Dapper 2006-01-18 update the problem still exist but
is a little bit different.

If i try to open a text file from a VFS volume, I get the ugly blank
document as before,

but If I try to open the same file from gedit I get the PROBLEM IS
SOLVED: I can open the file correctly after allow the program to access
the volume!!!!!!

However from OpenOffice and Bluefish is stil impossible to browse VFS
mounted volumes.... :-(

[except for bluefish, in Breezy OpenOffice the operation could be
possible!]

I don't understand this which is why this comment may seem foolish but why can't the GNOME-VFS layer just support this type of thing all by itself?

Why do applications require code to support this? It seems to me that any application that is linked against gnome-vfs should automatically have this support.

You have to use gnome-vfs functions, code doesn't automagically work just by linking to a lib without using it
