To reproduce the error:
a) Places -> Search for Files
b) Look in folder -> other
c) Choose a folder and click open
d) Error message "the folder could not be created" "error creating directory: file exists"

thanks for your bug report. I just tried this in Ubuntu 10.10 and got no error. can you please create a new user and then try to reproduce this issue. or even try Ubutnu 10.10 (if you can) to see if the issue is still there. that will be really helpful. thanks again.
