In my syslog there is the same thing several times

kernel: [16017.660159] radeon 0000:01:05.0: f225a600 reserve failed for wait

By now I have no problems, but I'm worried about this message write several times in my syslog.
I'm using ubuntu maverick (with lucid I haven't this thing) kernel 2.6.35-22-generic

If I try to switch users, I get a black screen, sometimes with random artifacts on the screen. I can use Ctrl-Alt-FX to switch to VTs. I think I got back to a sane state by switching back to the original logged in user and logging out, then the login screen for the user I was trying to switch to was displayed and I was able to login. So, login/logout works fine, but only for a single user at a time. I can't have multiple users logged in at the same time.

Disabling the fancy graphical interface elements does not help.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information.

I can see spurious messages similar to the reported ones in the logs, like this
-----
May 26 00:53:44 my kernel: [46878.764935] radeon 0000:01:05.0: efe79600 reserve failed for wait
----
I am using a custom kernl, since I have pm-hibernate issues with 3* version:

Linux my 2.6.35.14-custom #1 SMP Wed May 16 11:30:09 CDT 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
It is built from the stable git tree of kernel.org
One more thing to say here. Yesterday I had a gpu lock . This resulted in black screen on all vt's The machine other than video was OK, I could ssh to it without a problem. The lock coinsided with the xserver update and followed it after a couple minutes. I rolled back to the older version.

Tried killing it by SysRq+K it did not do much showing a garbled picture on vt7 and spurious error msgs on the rest of vts
The trace is attached.
Do I have to report a new bug?

Laurent Bigonville, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
