Cannot update some packages when using persistent live CD from USB

This package fails to install when I use a persistent (casper-rw) live CD that I run off a USB drive.

I see the same thing. Works fine on Maverick, but not on Lucid.

I confirmed this bug also happen in Oneiric Ocelot.

the error starts like this:

lzma: Cannot allocate memory
dpkg: error processing watershed (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of lvm2:
 lvm2 depends on watershed (>= 2); however:
  Package watershed is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing lvm2 (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
