Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

When booting from a USB stick (built against Maverick rc build), the multi-touch trackpad is recognized as a "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse".

When touching the trackpad, the mouse flies wildly around the screen.

Thank you for taking time to report this bug and help making Ubuntu better.
Since your Touchpad is mis-detected, we need to check for the kernel, to do so, please run the following into your Terminal: dmesg > ~/dmesg
and attach the 'dmesg' file to this Report.

...I should have mentioned this dmesg is not from booting from the USB stick, but rather after having installed Maverick on the laptop.

I just bought this laptop and have this same problem. Right now I have an external mouse plugged in because using the trackpad causes the arrow to fly around the screen wildly, left- and right-clicking all the way. My first thought was that it was just waaayyyy too sensitive but then I find this bug. Here's my dmesg.

Yep - same laptop, same issues. I've got the LT3119u version. Trackpad goes crazy with either 32 or 64 bit 10.04 and 10.10.

And again - same laptop, Acer ZA8 - same trackpad issues. I just downloaded and installed today (1-19-2011).

This seems to still be an issue on the Gateway LT3119u; PC-BSD (free bsd) for instance, does not have this issue.

rogmorri, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue in a supported release, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

For others who may be affected by this bug, please report a new one via the Terminal:
ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Thank you for your understanding.

Hey I'm running on 15.10, and the trackpad still does not work upon install. My info is -- Linux wilaferd-LT31 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 15:35:0 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

I'm working on a Gateway LT3119u. The trackpad does not function properly. I followed all the steps on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection

I have tried multiple sites to fix the bug and get it working but nothing has been successful as of yet.

Here are my file reports.

Will, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
