Bug Description

I upgraded 10.04 to 10.10 RC (Maverick RC). (I hit some issues in the upgrade due to display going black, but think I resolved them manually.)

I was using the proprietary nvidia driver from the Ubuntu repositories. This is package nvidia-173 version 173.14.27-ubuntu1.
Setting xorg.conf to use this driver results in a failure to start X server after boot. Core error lines in Xorg.0.log are:-

[ 9.503] (II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
[ 9.503] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so
[ 9.504] dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: miEmptyData
[ 9.504] (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so
[ 9.504] (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
[ 9.504] (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (loader failed, 7)
[ 9.504] (EE) No drivers available.

System works with nv and nouveau drivers, but without accelerated effects.
