Bug Description

linaro-alip 9/30 build with hwpack from 9/30 on Rev A2 Beagle XM

LCD panel used for testing is a NEC 1920NX (aka 1280x1024 panel)

On the BB, X runs in 640x480. On the XM the image boots to 1280 x 720.

From the kernel command line we are passing

console=tty0 console=ttyS2,115200n8 earlyprintk fixrtc nocompcache root=UUID=e
ba1bcb1-2987-4698-8f17-053696643d03 rootwait ro vram=12M omapfb.debug=y omapfb.m
ode=dvi:1280x720MR-16@60
              ^^^^^^^^^

This explains why the resolution tops out at 1280x720.

However I'd like to think that 1280x1024 for fbdev should be sane.

Perhaps there should be some discussion/release notes about supported display resolutions.

why does a hard-cooded mode need to be passed at all? Do we not have EDID or equivalent support here?

That's strange - should be same on both.

Omap3 needs resolution to be set. Omap4 checks edid and uses native one.

1280x960 works if you modify the kernel command line (my monitor is 4:3)
