Bug Description

My GeForce 8600M GT is apparently unsupported (really? nouveau isn't good enough?). When I tried to install UNE, it logged into a unity session, but just gave me the "your video card won't work with unity, please use the desktop session" and then logged me out, bringing me to the GDM screen.

But since I never set up users, I don't know how to log into the desktop session! So UNE is entirely uninstallable on this machine.

Not sure this is the right place for the bug, please move wherever you like.

it's not localized to une, but on the live session in general.
IIRC, we prefiled it with "ubuntu" (no session to choose) in the desktop. Getting a live a testing…

confirmed, it was already the case in lucid and when you logout from the session. Same on desktop, lowering the importance then. Can be something we fix for natty.

ok, adding a string to mutter, trying to not break existing one:
"\nIf you are on Ubuntu live CD, the username is \"ubuntu\" and you have to enter a blank password."

This is a workaround for this release with the less possible impact.

mail sent to the translator mailing list. The final sentence is an addition to existing one (so, not breaking existing translations):
"If you are on Ubuntu live CD, the username is \"ubuntu\" and you have to enter a blank password."
