Bug Description

This bug has been produced on my system with both
Xubuntu 6.10 Beta and Ubuntu 6.10 Beta.

When installing with the livecd installer, at the hardware
detection step, the loading of the usb-storage module takes
forever (i.e. it does not seem to be loading). I can still
continue to use the livecd as normal. However plugging
in usb devices does not work.

This is a Compaq Presario SR1617.
(Booting with -noapic or -nolapic is not an option for me)

I have included (in order) the output of:
-lspci
-dmesg
-cat /proc/version

did you try to boot with "irqpoll" option as suggested by the first OOPS in dmesg?

No, but I will try it again with irqpoll and let you know.

I've tried it now. It worked again after booting with irqpoll.
Sorry to post it as a bug. Thanks Fabio. :)

It is still a bug :) the irqpoll option is a workaround for some broken bios. afaik it's possible to autodetect them. Can you please attach the output from dmidecode and lshw?
(you might need to run them as root or with sudo).

More likely it's us failing to set up IRQ routing properly. Can we have dmesg and the contents of /proc/interrupts as well, please?

The requested output of the commands (in order):
-dmidecode
-lshw
-dmesg
-cat /proc/interrupts (I assume that's what you meant Matthew?)

The commands were ran from inside the installed edgy
as root.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached it's end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task.

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.
