Bug Description

Target : Ubuntu 9.04, 9.10, 10.04, 10.10 beta

Context:
On a computer like ACER A110 ASPIRE ONE, there is TWO SD card readers.
One is labelled "storage expansion" on case. The other is not labelled.
The bug is about the NOT labelled one :

BUG description :
When the NOT labelled one is EMPTY at boot time, it is not registered as a device by Ubuntu (not visible with LSCPI command).

More informations :
* When there is a SD card loaded in this SD card reader AT BOOT TIME, it is recognized and works fine.
* The "storage expansion" SD card reader ALWAYS works fine, even if empty at boot time.
* It is not a BIOS bug since everything works fine nately on the same computer with FEDORA 13.

My opinion:
* I think that this bug occurs when there is more than one embeeded SD card reader on the computer running UBUNTU.
* This bug (and specially the way to live with it, i mean to load the faulty SD card before to boot Ubuntu) should be at least documented in Ubuntu limits, if not corrected.

###WORKAROUND:###

Boot with Sd card already inserted in the not labelled slot.

Best regards.

Hi!

Yes, exactly! But ONLY on the second SD reader (NOT labelled "Storage
expansion" on the case).
The first one, labelled "Storage expansion" works fine.

Best regards.

D.L.

Good morning.

I did what you said and it seems that you collected some system
informations?

Did you get what you expected?

Here are attached the result of 2 "dmesg" commands running 10.04 :
"OK.txt" when the 2 SD readers recognized coz second one not empty and
"KO.txt" when the second one is not recognized coz empty.

Best regards.

I also am experiencing this problem, running 10.10 netbook edition on my Aspire One ZG5

It is quite inconvenient since the SD slot that works is set so that the SD card is flush with the case when inserted.

Does it works fine if both SD card readers are full filed at boot time?

DL, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
