Bug Description

Hello,

this is a 10.04 install, 32bit. I am trying to scan using a HP C2520A scanner, the label on the front says ScanJet 6100C. I try to scan a document by starting "xsane image scanner" from the menu. xsane then shows its normal window. When I click on scan or a preview scan the scanner emits *ONE* tiny little sounds and moves about <5mm, switches on the light and then nothing more. When I cancel after some time I get an I/O error. When I try again afterwards the scanner is not found any more until some time later (when it moves against). The scanner previously worked on a windows installation, so I believe the hardware to be ok.

I tried setting the option dumb-read in /etc/sane.d/hp.conf because I did read the documentation, but it did not change a thing:
# Uncomment the following if you have "Error during device I/O" on SCSI
option dumb-read

The scanner is connected to the PC via SCSI:
$ lsscsi | column -t
[0:0:3:0] process HP C2520A 3644 -
[0:0:4:0] cd/dvd TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1401 1008 /dev/sr0

[2:0:1:0] disk ATA IBM-DJNA-351520 J56O /dev/sdd

The scanner is connected through an Adaptec controller.

This is what udev knows about the device:
udevadm info -a -p /sys/class/scsi_generic/sg0/

Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.
