Bug Description

Hardware concerned: Intel D945GCLF (Atom) with ATI Radeon HD 4350 PCI and Logitech diNovo Edge bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

Started with a working 10.4 install. In a Konsole window, I did a network distribution upgrade with do-release-upgrade

Packages were downloaded and installed. At some point, during configuration, it asks me if I want to replace the customized file /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd but my keyboard and mouse are not responsive and I can't answer.

Plugging in a spare USB mouse and keyboard did not work.

The only thing that worked was a hard power off and on again.

P.S.: after powering on again and terminating the upgrade, the keyboard/mouse worked again. It was just during the configuration of the upgrade itself that it did not work.

Maybe I did not explain myself, but you definitely got my last comment wrong.

The problem still exist. To reproduce:
- Load 10.4 on a machine with a bluetooth keyboard
- customize the file /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd (or any other config file that will require user input during the upgrade process)
- sudo do-release-upgrade
- wait until the process prompts for entry
- try to enter anything.

bluetooth keyboard/mouse won't work. adding a usb keyboard/mouse won't work.

the fact that I got around with it with a power cycle is an ugly workaround that should not be needed. A proper upgrade procedure would keep the mouse/keyboard functional throughout.

I also had this, my keyboard is a logitech dinovo mini. Unfortunately the prompt that I couldn't type into was the grub setup. Reboot didn't go too well after that.

I like to add that this is not a bluez related problem really. Although the keyboard presents itself, also, as bluetooth keyboard with the included dongle the keyboard is not a bluetooth keyboard anymore. It works fine during bios (when there is certainly no bluez involved. Yet just after booting in for example the live environment the keyboard stops working.

Something during boot effectively turns the keyboard Off.

As original reporter I'd like to close this bug as superseded / obsolete.

The 11.04 Kubuntu LiveCD on a USB key works properly with this hardware out of the box and with no trickery.

I doubt there will be many upgrades from 10.04 to 10.10 in the future.

Sorry to say, that upon a recent system-update (oneric proposed) the Bug (as described in comm.#6 ) is still there.

For now - the best is not to upgrade a still working installationand to remember the old microsoft-theme: Never touch a running system.

This is reported against an old version of Ubuntu and many things has changed since then. Because of that we won't fix this issue however if this behavior repeats on a modern version please fill a bug report against it and we will take it from there.
