Notification sound crackle

Binary package hint: pidgin

During a notification like a send/received message, the sound can have a bad cracking. It happens only if you use PulseAudio. .
After running the gstreamer-properties tool and setting the plugin to ALSA I had no issues with any crackling.

Same here, besides I'm using pidgin 1:2.7.3-1ubuntu3.2. Probably related to Bug #654290?

I have this problem too since upgrading from ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. It affects to pidgin and emesene notificathions.

This is an issue with PulseAudio (PortAudio), and not with Pidgin itself.
There is a possible fix.

I recommend going into Pidgin, and switching your audio settings from PulseAudio to the corresponding audio system on your desktop (ALSA, OSS, etc.). Until the issue with crackling and distortion in PulseAudio is fixed, Pidgin's notifications will continue to sound like that.
