package python-virtkey 0.60.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

While installing 56 updates this morning I was presented with the above error by the Update Manager. Subsequent attempts to install updates - either by Update Manager or Terminal commands - has resulted in the same error message. Error persists when attempting to remove python-virtkey (in order to try re-install) or upgrade to Python v3.1 in Ubuntu Software Centre
