Bug Description

I am using Thunderbird 3.1.4 from the Ubuntuzilla PPA (http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ubuntuzilla/) on Ubuntu 10.04.1. The indicator plugin doesn't work at all--no notify OSD popup, no entry in the indicator applet.

I believe this is because the .desktop file created for Thunderbird from this PPA is in /usr/share/applications/thunderbird-mozilla-build.desktop, NOT /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop. Likewise, the indicator for this plugin is in /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/thunderbird.desktop, which doesn't map to the Mozilla build.

I use the Mozilla build because I can get the latest version of Thunderbird without having to wait 6 months for the next Ubuntu release. Can you include support for this build?

I made same experience with same setup like above. Just had an interesting side effect too, that I do not know on how to eliminate again: Ubuntu startup sound as well as some Skype sounds (like incoming call ringing, contact signs on or off) and Firefox sound notifications (up to now I discovered Private Browsing Sound) disappeared and I cannot recover them anymore.
I had installed your v 1.1 + libnotify-bin. Even removing them again did not resolve my sound issues.

I agree with above user to prefer Ubuntuzilla releases of Mozilla due to earlier updates than the official Ubuntu repository does.

1. Does anyone have a clue on how I can recover lost sounds?
2. Please also include support for Mozilla-build version of Thunderbird.

Thank you in advance.

This is an update to my note dd. 2010-09-27: I re-installed v 1.1 + libnotify-bin again, just out of curiosity, if same time missing sounds would re-appear again ...
Anyway the indicator works perfect, just does not show Thunderbird-Mozilla-Build itself, but notifies and shows "Contacts" + "Compose email". The missing "Thunderbird-Mozilla-Build" does not bother as the program has to be kept open anyway that notification works. Besides that do I use Thunderbird as a PIM, and therefore need it constant open anyway.

Also checked location of the indicator file ... could not find it at all, also not at /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications.

Thanks for your bug report. I highly doubt your sound problems are related, maybe you should try to reinstall the packages that have problems?
I will look into this, though it's not top priority now.
