¿Can you try suspend/hibernate with Ubuntu 6.06 Final and updated?
You should use "nvidia" propietary driver with Option NvAGP "1" and blacklisting "intel_agp".

I never had a problem with Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper! Neither with NvAGP nor
with intel_agp. The problem only occured in Edgy.

Changing the NvAGP settings as instructed does not change a thing in
Edgy. "Power down" message is printed, but the system does not power
down. Instead the HDD light goes on again.

The problem persists. I guess the kernel sends an acpi power down message but the damn BIOS of this damn Sony fscking Vaio is just damn broken! I wish I would have never bought this damn Vaio. These Sony guys don't produce any quality hardware anymore!

Power down now sometimes works in Feisty and sometime does not.

As of linux-image-2.6.20-16-generic 2.6.20-16.29 power down works again. So far this solves my hibernation problem. I have to try, if it works as well, when using intel_agp instead of NVagp however.

STR (suspend) does work as well for the most part. Does some weird shit still but most things work. What does not seem to work however is waking up my SATA hdd which holds my root! This introduces a whole range of problems beside not being able to execute any commands.

I am not sure if this is an sata problem or some LVM specific problem. However here is what I get on the console:

I have one SATA disk sda and except for the boot partition everything is LVM.

By the way, I believe it would make great sense, if I could upload my systems hardware profile to my launchpad profile, so I don't have to upload it again and again to every single hw-specific bug I file. This could probably be done via the hwdb.

Still does not work in dapper, edgy and feisty. However, seems to work
in Gutsy now. I will report back as soon as Gutsy final is released so
this bug can formally be closed and not just "expired because of
inactivity".
