Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I am unsure on what is going on. Your apt-get's term.log shows a *LOT* of packages that seem to have been incorrectly removed (there are references to them, but dpkg cannot find any descriptions of the packages.

So, I wonder if what you are going thru is a consequence of these 'missing' packages. What happened here?
