Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic

Kernel linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic stops with "Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure" just after GRUB, while previous kernels have no problems and work. (2.6.32-22 and ever before)

I checked the root filesystem with fsck, found&fixed some minor problems (but HEY! I did that on a computer where 2.6.32-24 works and fsck found some filesystem problems too)

Harddisks are connected to "Hot rod 100 Pro" PCI IDE controller, one harddisk on each of 2 connectors.
/dev/md0 groups 1st partitions , used for SWAP.
/dev/md1 groups 2nd partitions, used for "/" (ext3)
/dev/sdb3 is mounted separately (ext3)

Hi MMlosh,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 647327

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

mainline kernel - 2.6.36 fails with "Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS"

but: today's new ubuntu kernel 2.6.32-25 boots without trouble again (while 2.6.32-24 is still broken)

forget about this bug... reinstalled 2.6.32-24 and it works... either bug in initrd components that got upgraded, or hardware bug that caused error in initrd... please close this
