Bug Description

On the two computers on which I've installed Ubuntu and it successfully suspends it every so often, according to no pattern I can discern, resumes incompletely. The desktop comes up, sound and the mouse work. But firefox is just about the only program that will load (allowing me to post this bug). The terminal, the logout menu, any preference or administration dialog - nothing follows the launch feedback. Then 10 or 20 minutes later all the things I've tried to load suddenly appear.

This is on a new dell e310 desktop with integrated intel graphics and an older sony vaio desktop with an nvidia card using the nv driver on a wired network with a pretty much standard install of dapper and then edgy as of october 5 (suspend didn't even work at all on the sony in dapper, so kudos). Beagle is the only background service I'm aware of initiating, but stopping it either reduced the frequency of this problem or had no effect, it's hard to say.

This is my first bug, so please let me know if I can provide more info, or if this an inappropriate posting.

On kubuntu edgy the problem doesn't seem to happen.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
