kwin hangs on effect switch or window specific parameter

Running kubuntu maverick amd64 daily build of 21-9-2010

I've set my system up to use libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental to keep Plymouth splash running smooth and sexy yet i have found out that it might be part of the issue in Kwin hanging on effect changes or window specific parameter entry ("Special window setting").

Also, I have noted that icon animation (On Kpackagekit upgrades or queries for example) the icons or parts of the "variable" aspects of a gui paint up wrong, in an exploded sort of way... it seems to occur even when using the Nvidia binaries (nvidia-current on asus EN 9800 GT)

it's really annoying to have to pull out to TTY and unload/restart kwin every time that occurs...
